In his most recent blog post, Corey Allan aka @simplemarriage, lists many of the mistakes he [all of us] made throughout the course of his marriage. He notes, “As a rule, remember that everyone makes mistakes. Every marriage  has arguments. Every marriage also has highs and lows.” Great read and includes one of my favorites videos! (Read post)

Link: Why are divorce rates higher for remarrying couples?

A survey of 1,000 people who are remarried or are considering remarriage conducted in March 2008 by Remarriage LLC reveals that 31 percent said they need more access to relationship, legal and financial advice and 27 percent said they need guidance on blended families. Yet 59 percent said it’s easier to find a diet they could stick to than it is to find resources on remarriage. Where are all the RE-marriage resources?! I often refer to the Smart Marriages, do you know of any others?

“When one spouse is laid off or is working harder and longer, that may throw an already rocky marriage into the gravel pit and put a strong marriage to the test…But strong marriages can survive this recession.” Before a couple sits down to discuss finances, I suggest that they sit down and make a list of ways that they can keep from taking each other for granted,” said David Coleman, who is from the Cincinnati area. Related Link: More couples staying together due to recession

Valentine’s Day Gift Idea: NO JERKS!

As part of Marriage Week USA, the Utah Healthy Marriage Initiative and Department of Workforce Services have organized: “Everything Singles Should Know and Parents Should Teach about … How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk (or Jerk-ette).

My wife and I have interacted with author of How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, Dr. John Van Epp, and his wife over the past few years.  They have a great heart and this event should be a blast! He will also be presenting at the Smart Marriages conference later this year in Orlando, FL.

Prediction: Premarital & marriage classes will find their place online.

My wife & I have been using tools like Ustream, Skype, Mogulus, Seesmic, and Tokbox to have real-time web video chats w/other tech savvy couples about married life. As more people jump on social networks look for premarital and marriage classes to be commonplace online.
