National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) just released Mama Says: A National Survey of Moms’ Attitudes on Fathering, the first-ever national survey taking an in-depth look at how today’s mothers view fathers and fatherhood.

Top findings:

:: 93% of moms believe there is a father absence crisis.
:: Most moms think dad is replaceable.
:: Married moms were happier with dads’ performance than unmarried moms.

Divorce makes men –particularly fathers – significantly richer, however, ex-wives are plunged into poverty, according to new research. Researchers in Britain have found that divorce makes men significantly richer because their available incomes rise by around one third, while the average woman’s income falls by more than a fifth and can remain low for many years. The DVDs also are designed for couples to watch together. ”The truth is, women have no idea what guys are actually thinking, which is a huge gap and a huge worry for a lot of women,” said Troy Jones who spent $10,000 making a DVD about fatherhood. A national distribution deal early on with the Big W chain was a key part of success in Australia and Mr Jones is negotiating a similar arrangement with giant retail chains Walmart and Babies “R” Us in the U.S.

Getting a man to the altar is far less a guarantee that he will stick around than getting him emotionally involved in the preparation before a baby is born, concludes the study, which is published in the December “Journal of Marriage and Family.” The report is based on data about 1,686 couples, most of them unmarried, from the ongoing Fragile Families Child Well Being Study, which is a joint project between Princeton and Columbia.
